The N1 Centre isn't just about shopping and food, there's also great live music and club nights at the O2 Academy Islington. The O2 Academy is in fact two venues: a 250-capacity space for smaller gigs and events called Academy2, and of course the 800-capacity main auditorium for headline gigs.
Since opening in September 2003, the intimate O2 Academy Islington has played host to some of the biggest international artists such as Muse, Eminem, Coldplay, The Zutons and The Cure. The venue was previously known as the Marquee Club, but was revived with help from Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart and new investment from AMG and Live Nation.
Today, the O2 Academy Islington is as popular as ever. If you''re looking to end the week on high note then there''s something on for you. Every Friday night sees DJ Dan's Propaganda indie club night takeover the O2 Academy. DJ Dan was the aftershow DJ of choice for two Oasis stadium tours and has played sets to thousands in the UK and Ibiza, New York and Barcelona as well as festivals including Reading, Leeds, Bestival and Snowbombing.
If you've still got the energy the next day, Saturday night makes way for Club de Fromage, London’s top occasion for getting into some fancy dress and dancing the night away to the best pop music has to offer. But if the recession is getting you down, then maybe Saturday nights are best spent in the Academy2, for Feeling Gloomy - the world''s only club night devoted to playing sad music.
